Our Community
Irrelevant
Surrounded by many, acknowledged by few,
Surrounded by loneliness, but not many knew.
Wanting support, but not knowing how,
Wanting some help, in the here and the now.
What do I do, when words are not spoken?
What can I do, to fix what is broken?
I’m more alone now, that I’m living amongst people,
I’m more alone now, that my existence is not equal.
I’m surrounded by seclusion, except for an hour or two,
I’m surrounded by confusion, from the life I once knew.
This poem is telling us a story of becoming older and irrelevant to society.
Many people feel lonelier and isolated within a City / Town surrounded by large populations than those who live in rural villages with a smaller population. City / Town life can breed a “Dog eat dog” mind set, because of this, people get over looked or not acknowledged.
The fear of getting ripped off and hurt by others affects people wanting to help others. This means that, although there are many more people within your living radius, the community feel is at a low.
We feel that building a community is the way to help those in need, those who need help but will not ask for it.
We are stronger when we are a community.
The ideas of many, are better than the ideas of one.
The help of many, are better than the help from one.
We celebrate that we are part of a community that wishes to stamp out what has been highlighted in the poem above.
